He was born on September 14, 1977 in Amorebieta, Biscay, in a working family that was closely tied to the kitchen
He studied at the hospitality school in Leioa, Biscay, although Eneko had already made his first steps in the kitchen with his mother and grandmother.
He began his career at the Baserri Maitea restaurant and passed through many other great restaurant kitchens such as the restaurant Martin Berasategui.
He was head chef at the Etxebarri restaurant and later at Andra Mari where he considers he became a “professional” chef.
In 2002 he was named Champion of Young Spanish Signature Chefs.
He opened the Azurmendi restaurant in Larrabetzu, Biscay.
Azurmendi received the Q certificate of Spanish Tourism Quality.
First Michelin star for Azurmendi.
Second Michelin star for Azurmendi.
Inauguration of the bioclimatic building, and with it, the third Michelin star for Azurmendi***.

Azurmendi*** is named the Best Restaurant in Europe by Opinionated About Dining (OAD) and the third best restaurant in the world according to Elite Traveler. Also Eneko Atxa was recognized as the Best Chef under 40.
It continues to ascend positions in the The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and lands at 19th best in the world.
In addition, Leadership in Energy and Enviromental Design (LEED) awards them the Silver Certification for design and construction.
Eneko Atxa wins the 2015 National Gastronomy Award for Best Chef.
Azurmendi*** is named second best restaurant in the world and first in the Spanish state by Elite Traveler magazine and is ranked 16th in the world by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
It is also named tenth best restaurant in the world by TripAdvisor and second best in the country. As if that were not enough, Azurmendi received the National Award for Hospitality Company committed to Sustainability by the Federation of Hospitality Companies of Spain.
Eneko Atxa opens the ENEKO restaurant located in Azurmendi’s old location. In November the new ENEKO restaurant is recognized with a Michelin star.
He also continues with his international expansion and opens the restaurant ENEKO Tokyo.
